Valarias visions in Cara Fahd

As you’re walking along, something on the ground catches your eye. You look down and see a length of chain – rusty, dirty, and half-buried in the reddish earth of the road. For some reason, it holds your interest, and you stop and look at it. It’s a heavy chain, the forged iron links showing definite age but also a certain shine underneath, a clear sign that the metal hasn’t completely rusted away. You lean over to touch it, perhaps pull it out of the ground, when suddenly it moves, rolling out of the dirt, along the road and just out of reach of your hand. You stop for a moment, watching it, looking to see if it’s a trap of some kind. All around you, Name-givers continue what they were doing, talking, trading, walking down the road – no one looks at you. The rest of the group is busy taking in the sights of Wurchauz.
You walk a little further and reach down again. This time, you feel the winds blow as you reach down, and the chain blows with it, flitting and tumbling like it was made of paper and not iron, but still clinking and clanking, the metal links rattling in the breeze. As you watch, the wind picks the heavy chain up and carries it high into the air, like a zephyr with a pile of leaves, the links rattling together as it flies higher and higher into the sky. Finally, you stand watching, almost disbelieving, as the chain floats away on the breeze, the metal links winking brightly at you as the wind carries it away to the distant horizon.



You sleep very poorly. You don’t normally have too much trouble sleeping wherever you can, but tonight you keep hearing noises that keep you awake. You roll over, willing yourself to block them out and focus on sleep. Just as you are about to drift off, the noises come again, not so much louder as clearer, and more easily made out: they are voices. Someone nearby is yelling, crying…perhaps a fight or argument somewhere. You continue trying to put it out of your head, growing weary but still unable to sleep. Finally, you roll over and stare upward, trying to focus on what’s going on. You listen carefully…and realize the voices are calling for help. Someone is injured or in danger, and calling ever more loudly for aid.
You sit up and try to figure out where the voices are calling from, closing your eyes and focusing on the sounds. They are steadily growing louder now, and more of them are being added, a regular chorus of misery: crying, shouting, begging for aid in some manner, for relief from some pain. Finally, your eyes snap open and you realize where the sound is coming from: the jungle.
